Abi Pain
Hi there! I'm Abi, and one of two people responsible for bringing the new SSAGO website into reality! My job is to work on the tech that ticks away behind the scenes to power everything, so if I'm doing my job right, you should never notice that I'm doing anything!
I've got my start in scouting in Beavers and moved up through the stages before becoming an Air Scout at the start Explorers, which quickly turned into some of my favourite years in scouting. Fast-forward to now, I'm still involved in scouting through SSAGO while I study for my MSci in Computer Science at the University of Birmingham.
Outside of Scouts and my degree, I really enjoy film photography, climbing, making things (including general crafts, sewing, fun little websites and digital gadgets... the list goes on!) and travelling, plus whatever new hobby I've got going on at any one time.

Report
- Research: while work has continued on developing a new SSAGO website, it is becoming increasingly apparent that making something entirely new may not be completely feasible, so alternatives and different approaches are being explored and looked into.
Aims
- Alternatives: continue to research alternatives to a complete re-development of the SSAGO website
- Stability: aim to get the existing SSAGO website into a state such that it is more reliable and less prone to going offline
October 2025
Report
- Broken ground: a new website is under development, starting with membership and clubs.
- Research: investigations have been made on how best to approach some of the trickier areas of the project, such as emails
Aims
- Planning: work with Nem to create a fairly complete set of documents specifying how the new site should work
- Deployment: depending on when they are ready, deploy some of the new website components of the website alongside the old one
June 2025
Report
- Handover: attended handover at Gilwell with Oli, Nem and Jack to get up to speed with the current SSAGO tech
- Discovery: started documenting everything that's within our remit and forming a general idea of how to approach things
Aims
- Survey and strategy: work out what people think about the current site and tech and work out what order to do things in so we can get the project properly started!
